Paula Begoun earned the moniker “Cosmetics Cop” through her exposés of the cosmetics industry. In such best-selling books as Don’t Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me and The Beauty Bible, she has helped both men and women learn important information the industry did not want them to know. Paula has appeared on many popular television shows, including CNN, Oprah, The Today Show, 20/20, Dateline NBC, The View and Primetime; locally, she has made regular appearances on KIRO-TV. Well-known for her extensive knowledge of the cosmetics industry, she is a respected resource among professionals such as dermatologists, plastic surgeons, major cosmetics companies, and industry insiders.
Now, she has created her own line of products called Paula’s Choice. Instead of the synthetic coloring agents, fragrances and other irritating ingredients in most cosmetics, Paula’s Choice products contain potent antioxidants, pH-effective exfoliants, and soothing water-binding ingredients that mimic the structure of the skin. And they are affordable.
Paula strives to make a significant difference in the world by contributing time and money to worthy causes. She and her company support such organizations as American Cancer Society, American Humane, American Red Cross, Domestic Abuse Women’s Network, Save the Children Federation, Inc., and the United Negro College Fund.

Dr. Barbara Brewitt

Dr. Barbara Brewitt is a trailblazing pioneer, changing the face of modern medicine. As CEO and Chief Scientific Officer of Biomed Comm, Inc., which she founded in 1996, Barbara has been fostering a new medical paradigm of scientific, evidence-based natural medicine options. She now holds nine international and U.S. patents with clinically proven, replicated results. Her products are sustainability distributed through stores such as Whole Foods and Wild Oats, which have strict criteria and guidelines for the products they carry.
Barbara received her Ph.D. from the University of Washington’s School of Medicine in 1989 and went on for post-doctoral research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on growth factors and their governing effects on DNA and gene expression. It was at NIH that she observed how extremely low concentrations of cell signalers controlled cell health and repair processes.
This year, Barbara opened a new manufacturing facility to produce products addressing chronic aliments such as stress, human-immunodeficiency syndrome and autism. She brings all her skills as scientist, minister and socially responsible activist to her mission of providing people with healthy options.

Elegant Gourmet
Louisa Davis is a modern-day alchemist—in 1990, she and a friend turned a 100-year-old family recipe for chocolate almond toffee into gold. Their objective at Elegant Sweets was to make the ultimate product in both taste and design to keep the customers coming back for more. And they did. In 1994, Louisa bought out her friend, renamed the company Elegant Gourmet, and continues to spin gold with three award-winning product lines numbering more than 300 products.
That first year, the high-quality chocolates, caramels and cookies were already on their way to success when a member of the Nordstrom
family received the toffee as a holiday gift. Nordstrom’s has been
carrying Elegant Gourmet products ever since. Other stores and clients include Starbucks, William Sonoma, Neiman Marcus, Walt Disney Company and specialty gourmet and gift retailers across the country.
Louisa developed a new product line, Hannah’s Delights, a collection of tea cookies, mixes and citrus candies; Lemon Dream Cookies, was awarded “Outstanding Cookie for 1996” at the New York Fancy Food Show. Another award winner came out in 2002—Pumpkin Spice Dreams, a delicate twist on a traditional flavor.
In July 2004, the company expanded into a larger facility in the heart of Woodinville. It added yet another new line with the acquisition of Master Candymaker Emery Dorsey, bringing back the lost art of old-fashioned hand-pulled candy canes, ribbon, candy and barber poles. These products have been featured on Food Network’s popular show “Unwrapped.”

Carolyn Frame understands the value of maintaining strong relationships with the community and professional partners such as real estate agents, financial planners, and insurance agents. Under her leadership and guidance, CFA Northwest Mortgage Professionals has built an outstanding reputation in the region as more than a mortgage lender; CFA is known for its dedication to educating clients about financial issues and growth potential of real estate.
Carolyn’s commitment to giving back to the community includes financial and in-kind donations to many organizations. She often volunteers—and encourages her staff to join her—at The Boys & Girls Club; The Rotary Club; Health, Housing & Human Services Board; Habitat For Humanity; Bainbridge Island Public School Trust; and Family Recovery, an alcohol and substance abuse treatment program.
Carolyn and her husband, Charlie, were named 2003 Business Leaders of the Year by the Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce, and Carolyn was honored as 2002 business leader of the year by the Kitsap Business Journal. The June/July issue of Broker Magazine ranked her the 28th top-producing loan officer in the nation and the second highest producing female loan officer in the nation.

A Place for Mom, Inc.
Pamala Temple knew there had to be a better way for families to find care options for their aging loved ones. In 2000, she found one – when she created A Place for Mom. With 15 years of experience managing 33 assisted living facilities, she knew firsthand what key ingredient was missing for finding the right care option: personal consultation. Too often families were making these critical decisions by either looking in the Yellow Pages or driving by a facility.
No longer. To date, A Place for Mom has helped more than 100,000 people find the right place for their loved ones. The company’s Family Advisors (which currently number 109 but should grow to 300 by 2007) are eldercare specialists in the areas where they live. A Place for Mom has experienced a 13,000-percent increase in revenue over the past five years, which makes it one of the fastest growing companies in the nation.
Pamala’s company also created an online Customer Relationship Management system called You’ve Got Leads, which helps senior housing professionals manage their sales activities.
